Four Wednesdays: January 25, February 1, 8, 15; 6-9pm
Great for beginners
Learn several binding styles and basic skills, plus important fundamentals
of materials, equipment and techniques. Make an accordion with a pamphlet stitch, a longstitch binding, and a multi-signature
case binding. Simple tools and methods will be used and discussed so each student can continue working at home.

Introduction
to Book Repair
Three days: Saturday & Sunday, February 18-19 and Saturday, February 25;
10am-5pm
Some binding experience required
Learn to diagnose book conditions and perform simple repairs. Techniques will include dry
cleaning, tear mending, spine-recovering and endsheet repair. Students should bring three books that need repair to the first
class (no leather).
Core Certificate: 21 hours, Category A or B

Japanese Papermaking and Paper Decoration
Saturday & Sunday, March 3-4; 10am-5pm
All skill levels welcome
Learn the tools and techniques used in Japanese style papermaking
to make thin, beautiful sheets of long-fibered paper. Then, using sheets we have made, learn the decorating techniques of
"dragon paper"(unryu-shi), marbling (sumi-nagashi) and fold
dye (shibori-zome) These techniques do not require complicated or expensive equipment and once
learned all can be done easily at home. Beginners and repeat students are welcome. Dress for mess with water-safe shoes and
rubber gloves.

Japanese Bindings

Discover
the beauty and simplicity of Japanese bindings. In this class, you will learn to make two styles of Japanese books: the Daifuku
Cho account ledger (a stab binding) and the Retchoso multisection book (a multi-needle
binding). You will then create a Chitsu wrap-around case with bone closures to hold your two
new books.
